More Sonic RPG details
« on: February 16, 2008, 04:56:11 am »
A preview of Sonic RPG is up at IGN, with accompanying new screengrabs. It's not looking too shabby, though the interview is slim on details. And I'm not so sure "Blue Ridge Zone" rings a bell.

IGN seems to be having uptime issues, so if you want to see the screenshots here's the NeoGAF topic.

Things that please me: still loving those backgrounds, real-time elements in the turn-based combat, the fact they're trying to have speed in the game, stylus control, "rich" story apparently.

Things that don't: Big (I mean srsly), travelling to another dimension (clichétastic), the name (also clichétastic).

Things I'm unsure about: turn based gameplay - low barrier to entry but also potentially shallow and breaks up gameplay a little.

It'll be exciting to see just how messed up Central City is 2 years after the Black Arms invasion. Still, I would have preferred a Tales of the Abyss (or Tales of Symphonia for those who haven't played ToA) style combat system. Big deserves a dark court felony for existance (sorry no benefits for him). Who knows what will lurk in that "alternate dimension". Let's hope we don't start fighting midgets with glowing finger tips, ultimate zombies, evil talking books with eye beams or evil world eaters sealed inside swords that are the Shakesphere of cursing/insults. <3

IGN: What kinds of locales will gamers recognize from the Sonic series?

Mark Darrah To name a few: Green Hill Zone, Central City, Mystic Ruins and the Blue Ridge Zone

IF BIOWARE USES THE MYSTIC RUINS ONLY TO SAY "HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEH BIG'S HOUSE OK NOW MOVE ON" I WILL FIND EVERY PERSON WHO WORKED ON THIS GAME AND BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THEM

IF BIOWARE USES THE MYSTIC RUINS TO PUT TIKAL INTO THIS GAME THEN I WILL FIND EVERY PERSON WHO WORKED ON THIS GAME AND GIVE THEM MY JUDGEMENT ON HOW AWESOME THEY MADE TIKAL IN THIS GAME

IT BETTER BE GOOD

Ah, thanks!

I have nothing against transdimentional story, as long as it is well thought through. It could even turn out to e awesmoe. But I really, really, really wished it was not turn based. I am really not fond of turn-based stuff. Oh well, I still hope it will turn out fun. QTEs are useless, but not really in the way either.

More preview impressions. My Mario & Luigi hypothetis seems to be right. Quote from article: "Possible hint: Tails dies?" You suck Bioware. <3. (Heart symbol usually means something sarcastic/ smart ass ccomment.) Aw,  I wanted to pull that plot twist in my own RPG idea (the one with Tales style combat I've mentioned in the past), only that would act as the catalyst for the events of the "worst" ending (and only happen in the worst ending).

...what

So Tails dies.

Sonic considers leaving Knuckles to die.

Amy basically calls Rouge a slut.

This is sounding like a Sonic fanfiction to me. Not a good kind either. More like this.

Damnit.

Tails dying is most likely a joke written in the article (parody of the now cliche Aeris death). Sonic's comment about Knuckles is most likely a smart ass comment after he does something stupid (remember the "attitude" responses proimised which will add some humor to the game). Amy's new colorful language is probably caused by Rouge doing something that would make her real mad. We all know what's the most likely trigger. <3

Damnit.
Tails death was a joke. The Knuckles thing is probably one of the smart ass "attitude" dialouges that add some humor. Rouge probably does something (we all know what the usual trigger is <3) that makes her real mad. This is going to be a great year for RPGs. We have this in fall or winter, the US version of Disgaea 3 coming in August, Final Fantasy 13 proably in early 09, and other stuff.

He doesn't want her in it because he thinks it looks shit. And yeah okay, I'm trying to remain optimistic but must admit I'm finding it progressively more difficult as more is revealed about this. :<

Zoah is probably the least retarded name on that list. Seriously, Icebo? Darknood?

Lol Darknood.

Best part about this was Dusk, the most generic name on the list, being voted in because of Blackarms and his fanbase.

I mean srsly guys.

The winner of the poll is announced. It wasn't my favorite, but at least it wasn't one of the weirder ones.

http://blogs.sega.com/sonic/2008/03/19/zoah-far-zoah-good-the-winner-is-announced/

I'm not sure if favoritism took a part of the poll, because of SEGA Nerds coming up with the name "Zoah." I don't really like it because it reminds my of Zora from the Zelda series. =(
